<image:caption>Her research focuses on the ways that moonshine is constructed in discursive spaces, such as popular media, social memory, and academic research, and in material places where moonshine distillation sites exist as archaeological resources. Her work examines the entangled influences of class, race, racism, gender, and heritage tourism on the political economy of moonshiners in the postbellum US. Research Interests: Historical Archaeology, Southeastern US, Mid-Atlantic Region, Landscapes, Heritage Studies, Historical Memory, Political Economy, African Diaspora, Archaeology of the New South, Conflict Archaeology, Clandestine Economies, Moonshine, Spatial Analysis and Patterning, Remote Sensing, Archaeological Geophysics, Archaeological Practice and Ethics, Cemetery Documentation, Climate Change https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4958-185X</image:caption>

<image:caption>Beaufort, SC | In Summer 2022, I will be partnering with archaeologists from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) Heritage Trust Program to inventory collections from the 18th-century site of Fort Frederick in Beaufort County, South Carolina. This site is undergoing intensive archaeological recovery work by SCDNR due to climactic and developmental threats to the site. Note: This project has been delayed from July 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Berkeley County, SC | Since 2018, I have been investigating the archaeological remains of moonshining, known as still sites, in the South Carolina Lowcountry. This project, which serves as the basis for my dissertation research, represents a collaboration between myself, the US Forest Service, and descendant communities to tell the story of this dynamic landscape’s transformation during the late nineteenth-early twentieth centuries.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Coan Hall (44NB11) Geophysics - Site Overview</image:title>
<image:caption>The Coan Hall site, located on Virginia’s Northern Neck in Northumberland County, is home to the seventeenth century plantation of John Mottrom. The site has been the location of numerous historic, and likely pre-contact occupations, spanning from the late Woodland period to the twentieth century. First discovered by Stephen Potter in the 1960s and systematically surface collected by him as part of his dissertation research in the 1970s, this site has more recently been the subject of field investigation by the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Under the direction of Dr. Barbara Heath, fieldwork began with initial testing in 2011 and with intensive excavations beginning in 2015. These excavations have uncovered portions of a circa-1640s 54 x 21.5 ft. earthfast manor house, a series of pits, some of which are likely associated with seventeenth- and early eighteenth-century outbuildings, and other landscape features.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Coan Hall (44NB11) Geophysics - Locating the Palisade</image:title>
<image:caption>Geophysical work conducted by Dan Brock, myself, and Howard Cyr over the 2014-2020 fieldwork seasons helped identify the presence of several historical features on the Coan Hall site. The focus of the GPR and gradiometer surveys that I conducted in 2018 and 2019 was the identification of a circular palisade feature that had been identified in previous test unit excavations. Excavations in 2019 identified rectilinear English fence line that intersects the southwestern portion of the palisade (see image below).</image:caption>
